Happy St. Patrick’s Day! 🍀 In 1975, Liberace appeared in a series of luck-themed promotional tie-ins for the popular Canadian chocolate company Moirs.
My favorite of these tie-ins features Liberace in his iconic Jim Lapidus-designed piano suit offering fans a free copy of his single, “The Way We Were”, with select purchases of Moirs’ Pot of Gold chocolates. While I’ve never attempted to put the ad/single in a record player myself, the instructions note that it can be played on either manual or automatic changers after a quick hole punch through with a pencil. In addition to the mini-record, fans were also offered a discount on Liberace’s fuller, 12′ LP which they could purchase for only $2.99.

Liberace’s other collaboration with Moirs was styled in the form of a more traditional ad which featured the star offering fans four free chocolates with the purchase of one 1lb box of Pot of Gold. “They say it’s better to give than to receive,” Liberace grins cheekily, “but it’s nice when you can do both. Especially when it’s Pot of Gold chocolate!”

According to Glimpses of Canadian History, Moirs chocolate company was ultimately bought and restructured by American competitor Hershey’s in the late 1980s. Though the Pennsylvania-based chocolate company continues to sell Pot of Gold to this day, the candies no longer come in their iconic rainbow packaging.
